Poker

Whether you are a novice or an expert, you will want to know the rules of poker before you play. The goal of the game is to make the best hand possible, and the best way to do that is to learn what you should do.

The first round of betting begins with each player making a small bet, called an ante. The ante usually ranges from one dollar to five dollars.

When two players raise the ante, each has to put in the same number of chips. These chips are typically colored blue, which is worth ten or twenty whites, or dark, which is worth two, four, or five reds.

During this round, each player has a chance to check or call. If no one else calls, the hand is finished. If a player checks, he or she stays in the hand without betting. If a player decides to call, he or she matches the previous bettor’s bet.

The player with the highest card wins the pot. If there are ties, a high card breaks them. For example, if three people tie for the highest card, the second person wins. If there are a pair of Kings, the highest card wins.

The player with the best hand at the end of the game is the winner. If a player leaves before the game is over, he or she will not receive any of the kitty chips. These chips are used to pay for new decks of cards.
