Measurement Scale
The magnitude scale measures the strength of an earthquake with numbers from 1 to more than 9. Meanwhile, the Mercalli scale measures the impact and damage caused based on observations.

Earthquakes can cause serious damage to infrastructure, including buildings, roads, and bridges. Additionally, earthquakes can trigger tsunamis, liquefaction, and landslides, all of which can exacerbate damage and cause loss of life.

Some areas of the world are known as the “Pacific Ring of Fire”, these areas have a high incidence of earthquakes. Countries such as Japan, Indonesia and Chile often experience severe earthquakes because of their geographical location in the zone where tectonic plates meet.
